Simon Wohlleb

The founder behind Augusta Atlantic

Simon Wohlleb’s route into Wikipedia consulting started in the music business. Working at Sony Music in Munich, he saw how much a Wikipedia article could change the way someone was perceived – and the opportunities that followed.

He wanted to understand how that worked. In 2017, he launched the website that would become Weltraumagentur, the German consultancy behind Augusta Atlantic.

Today, the team’s experience spans more than 2,000 Wikipedia projects across over 25 countries, working with companies and public figures on a platform that can be difficult to navigate, even for experienced communications teams.

Educated in New York. Based in Germany. Working worldwide

Simon studied business in Hamburg and Munich, with study abroad experience at Pace University and Berkeley College in New York.

Augusta Atlantic brings his Wikipedia expertise to an international audience. Based in Augsburg, Germany, the consultancy welcomes enquiries from the United States, the United Arab Emirates and around the world. You can discuss your project with the team in English, wherever your business is based.

The questions tend to be familiar: Does our company qualify for an article? What can we do about inaccurate information? How do we approach another language edition? Simon built the business to give clients clear answers and help them work through the details.

A specialist business

Wikipedia is the consultancy’s entire focus. Its work combines research, preparation of source texts and personal advice on the platform’s requirements and processes.

Augusta Atlantic provides consulting only. The team does not edit Wikipedia on clients’ behalf or access their accounts. Clients take the actions themselves, with guidance throughout. This approach follows Wikipedia’s Terms of Use and community guidelines and is set out in the agency’s Code of Conduct.

The model grew out of experience. Simon’s early experiments with Wikipedia became a business built around teaching clients how to use it. Understanding the sources, the requirements and the people behind the platform became the core of the service.

As he discussed in his Business Punk interview, demand is considerable – but there are limits to what a consultancy can do. A company’s commercial success alone does not establish Wikipedia notability. The first step is to assess the available evidence and see whether a project has a basis to proceed.
